I am Nguyen Quang Thach. I have taken my idea into a model after ten year self-research and observation of Clan Culture in rural area is to build a bookcase/library system for rural areas called bookcase for reading encouragement for ruralists. The library is managed and to serve readers by clans so it is also call

clans’ library model. The idea was raised and conducted basing on the strong improvement and restoration of CLAN CULTURE. This model was originated from my thinking and desire are that all stratum of the people living in the rural areas are always having books for reading to seize and update the knowledge of all fields to create multi-directive impacts to encourage the rural children’s learning; and to improve the ruralists' spiritual life and the production and livestock in both short and long term. The model is practical base to reduce book-shortage pressure in rural area. It also  formulates reading culture and improves education and living standard for ruralists in long term.  I do expect that with the activation of the model and by providing initial core libraries to a number of the clans in the rural area in different provinces shall:

-    Motivate more than 250,000 clans to use their fund for learning encouragement to replicate the library model by self-providing bookcase to serve their own demand.

-    Awake members’ thinking of clans who are living urban areas to think of their relatives who are living in rural areas. This will help mobilize financial source to build thousands of libraries on large area with dozen of millions of rural population are very favorable. Many are willing to contribute several million VND to buy books for their clans. 

-    Attract hundred thousands of salary-paid officers/officials to contribute fund for rural people, especially, professors, writers, poets, businessmen…. to provide books for rural community.  

-         Make use of the free resource of retired teachers/ army officers to do free librarians. The self-management and responsibility of these librarians are very high.

-         Connect community through book exchanging/borrowing. The regulations for each clan that keeps bookcase is that the bookcase shall serve all members in villages, both inner and outer of clan.

-    and finally, Vietnamese rurality shall have a library system being self-built, self-managed and freely serve for  all stratums in the rural areas, especially for the children, and to contribute to building a Vietnamese rurality of safety, advancement, sustainability and humane in long term.  

After 10 years self-research and observation, and based on the strong improvement and restoration of CLAN CULTURE, and with the extra-income earned from the translation and supports of 66 domestic and international individuals, since 2007 I have provided 44 bookcases for 44 clans in 14 provinces with some of those are: Nguyen Quang and Nguyen Van in Son Le, Nguyen Duy in Son Tien, Tong Tran in Son Hoa, Tran in Son Chau, Pham Huu in Son Ha and Le Van in Sơn Thinh communes, Huong Son district Ha Tinh province; Le Xuan clan in Quang Ngoc commune, Quang Xuong district, Le Quang clan in Thieu Tam, Thieu Hoa district, Thanh Hoa province; Phan Dinh clan in Hung Dao commune, Hung Nguyen district, and Phan clan in Hop Thanh commune, Yen Thanh district Nghe An province; Nguyen Van and Do in An Duc commune, Quynh Phu district, Thai Binh province; Nguyen Dai clan in Hop Hai commune, Lam Thao district, Phu Tho province; Du in Binh Son commune Hiep Duc district Quang Nam province; 2 Vu clans in Thuc Khang and Tan Hong communes,  Binh Giang district, Hai Duong province; and Nguyen Hoang in Dai Ban commune, An Duong district, Hai Phong City so on and on.

The provided libraries include the book group of: (i) agriculture and health; (ii) Morality and law; (iii) Literature (story, poem); (iv) history; and (v) general group of math, chemistry, physic, English…and magazines. With this diversity, the bookcases have attracted differently-aged readers.

I do hope that all of you will contribute to  the rural community by building library for your own clan (about 250-300 USD can build a library with 200 book titles, which benifit for hundred peope, especially, for children) or offering books for me so that I can replicate Initial Core Libraries on the national scale. I do hope that you will introduce the model to your clans/homeland so that the clans can self-provide the libraries to serve their demand.
